MEPA 24/7 Operation room
Ensuring Environmental Protection Around the Clock
The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) operates a state-of-the-art, 24/7 Operation Room dedicated to monitoring and responding to maritime environmental challenges. Our round-the-clock services ensure rapid and effective action to protect Sri Lanka’s marine environment.
Key Operations
MEPA oversees the operation of port-based Waste Reception Facilities to ensure compliance with the MARPOL Convention. Continuous monitoring guarantees the proper disposal of ship-generated waste, preventing pollution in Sri Lanka’s waters.
As part of MEPA’s commitment to preserving coastal ecosystems, the team monitors beach cleanup efforts nationwide. Through partnerships with regional offices, volunteers, and local authorities, MEPA ensures efficient waste removal and the restoration of coastal areas affected by pollution and marine debris.
MEPA utilizes the Indian Ocean Regional Information Sharing (IORIS) platform to enhance maritime communication and collaboration. This tool enables the real-time sharing of critical information with regional stakeholders, ensuring swift and coordinated responses to marine pollution incidents.
Commitment to Excellence
The MEPA 24/7 Operation Room reflects our unwavering dedication to protecting the marine environment. By integrating advanced technologies, strategic planning, and collaborative efforts, we ensure the sustainable use of marine resources for future generations.
