PILF is implementing a project to protect the Mattegoda Wewa and adjacent wetlands; and the Ollupattawa Lake at Polgasowita. The objective of the project is to work towards giving a legal status to these two water bodies and related wetlands. Sri Lanka’s wetlands are dwindling fast due to a number of reasons such as development projects, land filling and encroachment. It is essential to protect the remaining wetlands. In this instance PILF is working in coordination with the Central Environmental Authority to give these wetlands a protected status under the Law.
